Mutual Aid

Mutual Aid is a cultural practice where-in local communities form networks and organize to meet their immediate needs outside of traditional structures or entities. GPLXC is deeply rooted in the community and was born out of the need for Mutual Aid.

Mercadito

The GPLXC Mercadito is Gage Park's only community-run food pantry that operates independently to distribute culturally reflective food in Gage Park. Our Mercadito started in 2020 as a mutual aid response to the Covid-19 Pandemic and has grown to be a life-saving community resource feeding over 500 families fresh, healthy, culturally reflective food monthly.

Migrant and Refugee Support

GPLXC has raised and distributed over $100,000 in financial support for asylum seekers, migrants, and undocumented communities in Chicago since 2020. Our Cultural Center has become a hub of resources, advocacy and direct support for hundreds of Latinx people seeking varied levels of assistance.

Winter Essentials Distribution

GPLXC organizes an annual winter essentials distribution that provides 500-plus residents with winter coats and other essentials to support families during the harsh Chicago winters. Supplies are collected at partner locations across the city and redistributed in Gage Park and surrounding areas.

Free Books

Due to underfunded schools and libraries in Gage Park, GPLXC operates a year-round free library at our cultural center that connects our community with thousands of free books to keep. This resource provides people of all ages access to books that might otherwise be unavailable and creates pathways to literacy support.
