Queer Riot: Echoes of Resistance & Resilience" is a two-week intensive summer program for LGBTQIA+ youth (ages 14–19 from Chicago's Gage Park and Southwest Side neighborhoods.
The program’s core objective is to use historical queer movements as a source of inspiration and personal resilience. It focuses on three main pillars:
Lineage: Connecting youth to the history of BIPOC queer icons and pre-colonial identities, such as Two-Spirit and Muxe leaders.
Care: Shifting mental health support from clinical settings to community-led peer support.
Agency: Equipping participants with "Survival Kits," which include mental health plans and advocacy tools to navigate the upcoming school year.
This is a paid opportunity with a $420 stipend for successful completion of the program.
The program runs from August 3- 13, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
Participants must attend all dates and be ready to participate fully in the program.
