If we don't tell our own stories, someone else will.

For nearly a decade, GPLXC has not only been organizing in Gage Park, we have been documenting what community looks like while it is happening.

We believe that the history of a neighborhood belongs to the people who live it.

That means the stories of families.

The photographs.

The artwork.

The memories.

The struggles.

The celebrations.

The people who showed up when their neighbors needed them.

The young people who documented their communities.

The moments that might otherwise disappear without ever making it into an archive.

GPLXC's community history work has helped bring these stories into places where they can be preserved, shared, and understood more broadly. Our collaborations with cultural and archival institutions have demonstrated something important: grassroots community knowledge is history too.

And our communities deserve to be the authors of that history.

The next decade gives us another opportunity.

We want to continue building community archives and creating opportunities for people, especially young people, to document the places and stories around them.

Because preservation is not only about looking backward.

It is about giving future generations something to stand on.

Imagine someone discovering these stories twenty, fifty, or one hundred years from now.

They will be able to see not only what happened to our communities, but what our communities did.

How people organized.

How people cared for one another.

How artists created.

How young people spoke up.

How ordinary people built something together.

That is a legacy worth protecting.
